What is golf club custom fitting?

Custom fitting includes gathering information about the golfer so as to define the correct equipment for his/her game.

  1. Start by obtaining player's information including average score, handicap, years playing golf, rounds per week and other golfing information.
  2. Look at the player's current clubs and determine what are the player's favorite clubs, least favorite and other equipment information.
  3. Determine the player's ball-striking tendencies, does the player slice, hook, length of drive, accuracy of irons, etc.
  4. Determine a player's goals, what does the player want, and does the player have any  equipment preferences.
  5. Let the player hit balls into a net or use a driving range. Obtain the player's club head speed, club acceleration, wrist to floor measurements, lie information, swingweight, grip sizing and preference.
  6. We then sit down with the player and examine options, graphite, steel, titanium, stainless steel, price and set make-up.
  7. I then build the club/clubs from components that I order or have on hand.  Normal delivery is about 5 days to 2 weeks. A new Driver with components on hand is 2 days.
  8. After the clubs are delivered it is my preference that the player play with the clubs for a week or so to determine how they feel and play.  At this point after the client is familiar with the clubs, we will conduct dynamic lie testing and adjust the irons as needed.
All this and more come into play in custom fitting.   You would expect a sales person to measure you for a custom made suit or dress.   You should expect nothing less from golf clubs.
