BAINBRIDGE CUSTOM CLUBS

JUNIOR CLUBS

Background

One of the reason I got into custom club building was an attempt to find my son a set clubs to learn on.  This was several years ago and at that time most of the junior clubs were cutoff adult clubs and finding a set was difficult.

I consider Junior Clubs to be built as Junior Clubs from the head up and not cut down adult clubs.  Adult clubs are normally too stiff and too strong (not enough loft).  Junior clubs will have heads with more loft and shafts with more flex, the grips will also be the correct size for the child's hand.

Loft

The loft of a junior club needs to be weaker than the adult club, this helps the child get the ball into the air at lower club head speeds.

Driver Loft:        Adult: 9°- 12.5°      Junior: 13°- 14°

3 Wood Loft       Adult:  13°- 16°      Junior:  19°- 21°

5 Iron Loft:        Adult:  26°- 28°      Junior:  31°- 33°

9 Iron Loft:        Adult:  42°- 44°      Junior:  46°- 47°

Shaft Flex

The shaft for a junior golfer needs to be more flexible than that of an adult.  Juniors normally have slower swing speeds and thus to feel the impact of the club the shaft needs more flex.  For young junior golfers there is junior flex shafts and for older Juniors I use either senior or ladies shafts.  It is far better to have a shaft that is more flexible.  Shafts are available both in Steel and Graphite.

Grips

Special Grips are produced just for Juniors.  These grips are made for Junior flex shafts which have a butt diameter of .500" vice .580" - .605"  for adults.  As Juniors get older I shift them to Ladies Grips.   Just because a Junior's hands are as big as an adult does not necessarily mean that an adult grip is the correct size.  By 11 year old son has hands the same size as mine but his hands are not nearly as strong.  I am in men's grips and he is in ladies.  That is why it is custom fitting.

We also do repairs for Junior Clubs.  We can reshaft Woods, Irons, and Putters.

We can reshaft adult heads to either Junior, Senior, or Ladies Shafts.
