I truly enjoy custom fitting ladies for golf clubs.  Most of the time ladies are very receptive to information and do not have a lot of preconceived ideas.  I decided to do a separate page on Ladies' Clubs so you can get a better idea of what they are and what they are not.

If we were to go into a golf shop and looked at men's and ladies' golf clubs, we would find sets of  8 irons and 3 woods each.  

Men: Ladies:

3-Piching Wedge and Woods 1,3 and 5

4-Sand Wedge and Woods 1,3 and 5

Regular or Stiff flex shafts

Ladies Flex shafts

Men's standard (.900" 2 inches from the grip butt) or Oversize Grips

Ladies standard (.850" 2 inches from the grip butt) Grips

Driver 45-46" long, 10½ - 9½ degrees loft

Driver 43" long, 12½ - 16 degrees loft

7 Iron 37 - 37½" long

7 Iron 36" long.

There is very little difference in components between men's and ladies' clubs.  Displayed below are two Snake Eyes Viper Iron heads.  The ladies head on the right has 1° more loft and 1° flatter lie angle.  Other than that the two heads are identical. 

 

  • Shafts are fitted in reference to weight, feel, clubhead speed and clubhead acceleration.

  • Shaft length is fitted using wrist to floor length and player's posture.

  • Grips are fit in reference to hand size and strength.

  • It all comes down to custom fitting.  Fitting the person with the right clubs determined by the player's specifications, no matter whether it is called men's or ladies'.
